Alabama executes man convicted of murder in 1994 Popeyes robbery

US supreme court temporarily delayed Robert Melson’s execution after lawyers protested use of the sedative midazolam, but later ruled it could go forward

A man convicted of killing three people during the 1994 robbery of an Alabama fast food restaurant was put to death by lethal injection on Thursday night.

Robert Melson, 46, was pronounced dead at 10.27pm CDT at a south-west Alabama prison, authorities said. The execution was the state’s second of the year.
